Volunteers

Want to make a difference in your community? Volunteering is a great way to get involved with the community, gain experience, share your skills and talents and meet new people.

The County of Prince Edward has volunteer opportunities through many of its departments and services. There are Boards and Committees which rely on volunteers to provide valued input and advice on policy and services.

The Recreation Parks and Culture Department has over 300 volunteers involved from the Millennium Trail to Museums and Ward Recreation Committees.

New in 2007 is the Volunteer Strategy Ad-hoc Committee. This corporate-wide committee made up of representatives from Council, Citizens at Large, the Recreation Advisory Committee, Museum Advisory Committee and various departments across the County will develop a strategy for the municipality for recruitment, orientation, training and recognition of our volunteers.

Current Volunteer Opportunities with the Recreation, Parks & Culture Department

Ward Recreation Committees
Volunteers are needed to assist on short term with special events such as a Day in the Park or Canada Day as well as people with a civic interest who are willing to participate on the committee to determine programs, services, events and park improvements within their ward.

Museums Site and Friends Committees
The museums have a unique opportunity to appeal to the “hands on” person who would like to learn and relate history to students during school tours or during seniors visits and special events. There are opportunities to work in the gardens and to learn about heritage plants. The Museum Site Committee advises staff on the physical structure and exhibits of the museum. The Friends of the Museum committee provide assistance through fundraising events, assisting with the tours and events.

If you are interested n volunteering please complete the application and return it to the Recreation, Parks and Culture office. For more information contact the Manager of Recreation and Culture.
