Five Sites
Hundreds of Stories!

The Museums of Prince Edward County are five unique museums, located throughout the municipality.  In scenic surroundings, they interpret the community's dynamic heritage with settlement dating from the late 18th Century. Visit:

Ameliasburgh Historical Museum and Pioneer Village
Macaulay Heritage Park
Mariners Park Museum
Rose House Museum
Wellington Heritage Museum

Operations

The museums operate within the Recreation and Culture section of the Recreation, Parks & Culture Department. The Head Curator supervises museum operations, two seasonal Site Curators and site maintenance with assistance from the Physical Properties section.

Community volunteers oversee each facility through respective site committees and an overall Museums Advisory Committee.  Each museum also has a "Friends of the Museum" group that provides support in a variety of ways.  For more information or to apply please see the Volunteers section.

The Museums of Prince Edward developed a strategic plan for 2006 to 2010. This document details future plans for the museums including partnership projects and exhibition themes that celebrate the County's unique past.

Exhibitions

Each season, the Museums of Prince Edward County present a series of new and exciting exhibitions.  Our varied line-up of exhibits includes:

The Sap Shanty and Maple Syrup Producers Wall of Fame
The Dutch Heritage Exhibit “New in 2007”
The Marine Heritage of the County
The Apples and Hops exhibit “New for 2008”
The Douglas Crawford Canning Exhibit

Educational Programs

Our heritage is a class adventure! The museums provide programs that link to curriculum (K-8) providing wonderful enrichment opportunities for students. Arrangements can be made for museum staff/volunteers to make in-class visits on a particular subject or theme. Similarly, customized tours can be developed with collaboration between teachers and staff.

Visit an authentic pioneer village, stroll the splendid halls of a Victorian home, reflect on the hardships and rewards of Loyalist life, dive into our rich marine history…and so much more! Please click on the link to view the full listing of Educational Programs.

Tours for Community Groups

In addition to providing educational programs, the museums provide customized tours for scouts, guides and community groups. If you are planning a bus trip to the area we can create a tour of all five museums or a highlight tour of specific locations.

For information or to book educational programs or tours, please contact the Acting Head Curator.
