Ward Recreation Committees
Integral to the provision of Recreation, Parks and Culture within the Wards are the volunteers that are part of the Ward Recreation Committees.
Mandate
The Ward Recreation Committee coordinates and supports recreation programs and activities for the residents of their Ward. Each Ward Recreation Committee determines the focus for the year. Some Recreation Committees provide direct programs for children and adults in a variety of activity areas from fitness to the arts. All committees also provide events and celebrations within their ward from Canada Day to concerts in the park to coffee and card parties and Breakfast with Santa. Some Ward Recreation Committees also include the local Fair within their responsibilities. While activities are planned for Ward residents, all programs, events, and activities are open to the general public for residents and tourists across the County.
Structure
Each committee establishes an annual budget and provides the County with financial reports and a year-end financial statement. The committees host an annual general meeting early in the year to elect a Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, Treasurer and other positions as needed by the committee. The County of Prince Edward provides assistance to the committees through the Manager of Recreation and Culture. A minimum of six meetings a year is held by the Ward Recreation Committee and minutes are submitted and shared with the Recreation Advisory Committee.
For more information about the Ward Recreation Committee in your area please contact the Manager of Recreation and Culture.
Volunteers are welcome! Volunteers are needed for one day to help out with an event or activity or as a committee member. For more information or to apply please see the Volunteers section.
