HERITAGE CONSERVATION

As one of the oldest settlements in Canada, Prince Edward County is blessed with a wealth of cultural heritage resources. Heritage conservation in Prince Edward County strives to protect and enhance the unique cultural significance of this place we know as 'The County'. Heritage conservation is a proactive approach to ensure that the special places in the County are protected for present and future generations. Conserving the County's unique places
is a goal for municipal government, many private and not-for-profit groups as well as individuals. The following webpage provides resources and links related to local heritage conservation.
Heritage Conservation Strategy

On February 22nd, 2011, County Council approved a municipal Heritage Conservation Strategy (summary graphic above) that addresses the conservation of cultural, built and archaeological heritage resources in the County. The strategy is guided by the principle that “Heritage is fundamental to our Sense of Place.” From this principle, a series of four Strategic Directions, each with corresponding actions were developed. The actions identified within the strategy are expected to be reviewed for implementation over the next several years, 2011-2015. Watch the website for implementation updates.
