Our year round population of 25,000 swells on weekends and doubles in summer. The County’s immediate labour force is 12,000 but employers also draw on the population of 175,000 people in the Quinte region. The local population includes 12% university educated and 62% with high school and/or additional certificates and diplomas. The labour participation rate is 58.4%

Employment
The municipality, school board and local hospital are major local employers together with the OPP station and Canada Post. In the private sector agriculture leads the way with the Wellington Mushroom Farm, followed by Midtown Meats and Townline Foods processing plants, SierraPak, wine industry businesses and Essroc Canada Inc.’s cement manufacturing plant. Tourism and hospitality are increasingly important employers with numerous hotels, inns, B&Bs, restaurants, significant resorts and conference centres plus seasonal and year round attractions and activities.
