Mayor’s Message

Welcome to the County of Prince Edward on the world wide web. I am delighted that you have opened this doorway to our municipality. I cordially invite you in and encourage you to get to know us better.

Prince Edward County is Ontario’s smallest single tier municipality. As we approach our tenth anniversary as an amalgamated County we have victories to celebrate, much to be proud of and exciting opportunities ahead. The transition years are behind us with lessons learned and bridges built.

Our goals are to provide good government, preserve our identity and way of life, and increase opportunities for individual and community enhancement in an atmosphere of health, safety and prosperity.

This Council has a focus on good financial management and we have recently appointed an Audit Committee to oversee our financial operations. Our efforts to date have resulted in the lowest property tax rates of all of our neighbouring municipalities. Preserving the environment is a high priority and we are proud to have one of the best recycling records in Ontario. We have recently implemented our first specialized transit service for disabled and elderly citizens.

The cornerstone of our success is productive relationships and partnerships with our citizens, the character and soul of our community. Our Council is committed to open dialogue and transparency in our operations and this website will be another tool to disseminate information and ideas to the public.

Our business community is made up of pioneers, artisans and entrepreneurs who have blended traditional values with global perspective. Together we have built a creative rural economy which is well positioned to offer our unique products and services locally, nation-wide and to the world.

We share our special ‘island’ lifestyle with visitors from near and far. They come to experience our United Empire Loyalist heritage, our hospitality and culture, vineyards, wineries, outdoor activities and spectacular beaches.
