Who We Are
The H. J. McFarland Memorial Home located in Prince Edward County is an accredited non-profit Long Term Care Facility operated by the Corporation of the County of Prince Edward and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
The Home is located on the outskirts of Picton click here for map and sits on 3 acres of beautifully landscaped properties with walkways, courtyards, covered patio and gazebo.
Mission Statement Our mission is to provide quality Long Term Care that encompasses the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of every resident of the Home and which encourages and supports the resident’s right to freedom of choice. Our mission is reflected in our Home motto:
“To Know To Listen To Honour”
Our vision is that every resident will always be central to the care we provide while recognizing and supporting our many partners in the delivery of this care. Resident-focused care will be provided which recognizes the unique individuality of every resident and which respects the standards of care as defined by the Resident Bill of Rights.
Values We value the resident and their family; their needs define the care we provide and we believe they are always central to the provision of care.
We believe that life is a continuum; today’s needs reflect the past and shape the future.
We value the promotion of wellness, recognizing that in Long Term Care, cure is not necessarily the goal; rather it is the achievement of the highest level of unique wellness for each resident.
We believe in a culture of safety which is achieved by the active involvement of all of us working together. Teamwork is the key to safety.
We believe in promoting, creating and nurturing a positive ethical climate where all our policy making, accountability, self evaluation, resident and business decisions are made conducive to ethical performance.
We value our co-workers and community partners, recognizing their unique contribution to the provision of holistic, resident-focused care. We consider ourselves to be a team in which each team member has value and in which all are respected for their contribution to resident care.
The H. J. McFarland Memorial Home is proud of its long history of caring for our seniors.
As a non-profit facility, we are also committed to provide services to help our seniors remain in their own homes as long as possible. The Home provides the Meals on Wheels program every Monday and Thursday for our community and we are also hosts to the Adult Day Care Program which is operated by the Victorian Order of Nurses every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm.
Our Home is over 19,000 square feet and is a two level facility with 42 Residents residing on the first floor and 42 Residents on the second floor.
The building is fully air conditioned and in 2007, a new HRV heating/cooling system was installed in an effort to make us more energy efficient. A solar system for heating hot water is presently being considered in keeping with our Municipality’s vision of going green.
Residents' Council The Residents' Council meets on a monthly basis and all Residents are invited to attend. The Council manages their own finances and oversees the operation of the Home.
The Council supports the Home and through the years, has purchased furniture, equipment, plants and pictures to enhance their environment.
The Council is also supportive of the many community events and local agencies.
Volunteers Our volunteers are a very special group of people who are committed to ensuring our Residents receive the best possible programs and services available.
Volunteers are involved with social teas, crafts, pub nites, Tuck Shop, birthday parties, one on one visits, bazaars and fundraising.
