Growth and Investment
Nothing succeeds like success and Prince Edward County is experiencing its fair share. Over $100,000,000 has been invested in Prince Edward County over the last few years.
Essroc Canada Inc. recently reinvested in excess of $25,000,000 in its Picton cement plant, one of the largest in Canada, demonstrating long-term commitment to Prince Edward County.
Midtown Meats recently completed a significant plant expansion, added a new line and hired an additional 65 employees.
SierraPak is a new multimillion dollar food processing business, adding 15 to 25 jobs to the community.
Clearwater Designs, a major Canadian canoe and kayak manufacturer, recently moved its operation from Kingston to the shores of the Bay of Quinte and increased its workforce to 20.
Investment in tourism
With expanding tourism comes additional investment in our infrastructure, and new B&B’s, retailers, retreats and spas are popping up like mushrooms (did we mention the famous Wellington Mushroom Farm?) A multi-million dollar waterfront inn & conference center is in the planning stages, and a new conference facility opened recently.
A multi-million dollar 18-hole golf course, condominium development and hospitality expansion is in the planning stages.
The Waring House Inn has doubled its workforce over the last few years to meet demand for accommodation and services and has added a conference center and a cookery school. In 2004 they opened the Claramount Inn & Spa, a high end luxury spa in a mansion overlooking the water.

Investment in vineyards
More than $30,000,000 has been invested in our booming wine industry, and there are currently 50 vineyards in Prince Edward County ranging from small plots to state-of-the-art wineries. Hundreds of acres of vineyards are an important part of our diverse agricultural mix, and vineyard plantings are increasing as investors realize the enormous potential. We have nine wineries and anticipate several more before the end of the decade.

Investment in housing
Vigorous commercial building activity in recent years has seen businesses expand and new homes constructed. The Macaulay Village development provides affordable housing in a rural environment close to the County’s main town of Picton. Wellington-on-the-Lake is an attractive and growing retirement village. Picton has several harbour view properties ripe for development, and Wellington waterfront is also prime for redevelopment.
