Is there a charge for NSF Cheques?

There is a charge of $25.00 for NSF (non sufficient funds) cheques. If your cheque does not clear, you will be required to pay the $25 administration fee

H. J. McFarland Memorial Home for the Aged

1. Can I afford the cost of staying here?
The cost of staying at a Long Term Care Facility is affordable for any applicant. The Province sets these rates and are subject to change on an annual basis. The fee paid by Residents presently is set at $51.88 per day for standard accommodation. Residents who are unable to pay the full costs set by the Ministry for standard accommodation (2 Residents/room) are able to apply for a reduced rate.

Semi-private and private accommodation is also available, but applicants must pay the rates as set by the Province and a reduced rate is not available for private and semi-private accommodation. However, families who wish to subsidize their family member in semi-private or private accommodation has the ability to do this by making arrangements with the facility. There are also other options for obtaining extra financial assistance and the facility will be able to advise you on this matter.


2. Are the meals prepared at the facility or are they brought in from an outside agency?
The meals at the H. J. McFarland Memorial Home are cooked on the premises. Produce is purchased locally when available and Residents are given choices at all meal times. A consulting Dietician is available to address any special dietary needs.

3. If I am placed in a room that is shared with another person and I find that this is not suitable, what are my options?
Moving into a Long Term Care Facility is not an easy transition for anyone and can be very stressful. When accommodation is not suitable, the Resident can be moved to another room. However, there may be a wait time involved before a move can be undertaken.

4. What happens if I want a private room and there is none available, but I need to be admitted because I can no longer care for myself at Home?
This situation can be discussed with you local Community Care Access Centre who will advise you about your options. Residents who are admitted to this facility and if there are no private rooms available, their names will be placed on our internal waiting list. When the requested accommodation becomes available, the Resident and/or family are notified.

5. Am I allowed vacation leave? What other leaves are available to me?
Twenty-one (21) vacation days may be taken during the course of a year.A casual leave of absence up to forty-eight (48) hours per week is also available to Residents. The casual leave of absence may also be combined with the vacation leave to extend the period of time available. When the casual leave is combined with the vacation leave of forty-eight (48) hours per week, it is possible to have thirty-one (31) days of combined leave per year.

What is the minimum lot size requirement for a rural severance?
As a general rule the required lot requirement is two acres but there are various factors involved in severing a lot. Please call the Planning Department at 613-476-2148 x342 for more detailed information.

How much is a dog tag and when are they are required by?
Dog tags are $20 and are to be renewed by the 31st of March of each year. Click here for a dog tag application form.

Do you handle situations dealing with animals other than dogs, e.g. raccoons?
No, but there are feral traps available for borrowing from Canine Control at 35 County Rd 14, phone number 613-476-7666.

What is required to apply for a building permit?
Most building permits require construction drawings and a site plan. Please click here for the requirements for a new house and/or addition.

Public Works

My sewer is backed up, what should I do?
The Municipality will perform sewer lateral rodding and camera inspections for private service lines on an as requested basis or you can call a plumbing contractor of your choice. As per the sewer use by-law property owners are responsible for all maintenance of private lines to the connection at the municipal main, not just to the property line. If you choose to have the municipality perform work on your line, please call 613-476-3537 to set up an appointment. Please note that all service calls will be charged according to the fee schedule. I need my water shut off, what do I do?

I need to have water and sewer line locates performed, what do I do?
For us to perform a locate request, we require 48 hours notice, unless it is an emergency. Please call 613-476-3537 to schedule your appointment. There is no fee for this service.

What are the hours of operation for the Landfill and Transfer Sites?
Wednesday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Where can I buy Garbage Bag Tags?
Bag Tags are available at County Transfer sites as well as the following locations:

Recreation, Parks and Culture

How do I book a Community Town Hall?
To book a community hall follow these steps:
1. Complete a hall rental application form including activity or event date(s) and start and end times (factoring in adequate time for set up and clean up). Booking application forms are available at the Recreation, Parks and Culture office or on the County web-site Bookings page.
2. Submit the hall rental application form with the required damage deposit to the Recreation, Parks and Culture office: 72 King Street, Picton
3. The booking will be confirmed by County Staff and confirmation should be received within two business days.

Do I need to fill out an application to use park space?
Yes, the submission of an application form for the use of park space, is required. The application advises staff that you are using the park to ensure that there are sufficient picnic tables and garbage cans on location. In addition, if there are special requirements for the event such as use of a gazebo or picnic shelter or vendors then you are assured that this space is available for your use. There are special requirements for fireworks, for hosting food events and for alcohol events in parks. For more information or to book:
